OConnell Street Merchants Newtown

Let the coolness take you inside

Such a fancy, cool and laid back shop in none other than cool Newtown. So smart, Newtown is the right place to set up O'Connell Street Merchants. Rightly so, as this establishment is based on that little street near the hospital and off King Street called O'Connell Street.

Lucia (curator extraordinaire) has done a splendid job. Find yourself at brand new too cool for school vibes enjoyed at trendy food joint Brewtown Newtown, and get your butt right upstairs. This is a great workout in itself. Then again, imagination is a preview of life's coming attractions. The flowers on a couple of the communal tables at cafe brunch paradise downstairs is a great tell tale sign that a beautiful florist is in town. That's right, O'Connell Street Merchants sell fresh flowers. This is only the beginning.

Plenty of space

This is where bohemian and trendy homebodies meet some of Sydney's cool fashionistas. They meet, and they become a perfect match. Both genders unite for O'Connell Street Merchants.

I was initially impressed to discover that this new shop (opened in November 2013) sell Gascoigne and King candles. These candles are made fresh in Surry Hills, and my favourite would have to be the Paddington blend, rightly named after the beautiful Sydney suburb where nearly everyone in Sydney wants to live. It reminds you of those fresh tree smells perched right within close proximity to many terrace houses in the area.

Some items for the home

Some great clothes can also be found here, as well as some eclectic cushions that are perfect for that plain leather couch. Some quirky home ware items are adored. The brick wall facade blends in beautifully with the polished floorboards.

Fashion and home meet. They become friends and fall in love.

More food awaits here too. Even though Sydney Fun is not a food review site, however, the small little cafe at O'Connell Street Merchants called The Affogato Shack could not be ignored. I noticed artist Gemma painting the gelato fridge. It was a hot day, and I did not want an affogato. Gemma was super accommodating serving me a pistachio gelato. That was $5 well spent. The coffee machine is fashionable too.

Fresh flowers for the home

There is plenty of space to browse, buy and enjoy at O'Connell Street Merchants. Don't feel rushed. It is nice to slow down in fast paced Sydney for a change. A great start to quality Newtown. I adore thee for thy home, and most importantly thy wellbeing.
