A real adrenalin rush for sure. That is the
City2Surf , an iconic annual Sydney fun run that has been around for over 40 years, and quite frankly, the best is still to come. When you run against 60,000 people, to all of a sudden running against 85,000 people, you're on a natural high. This is coming from someone who recently competed in her eighth City2Surf appearance just over a week ago, as at the time of writing this.
This is a 14km challenge, to say the least. There are a variety of different start groups: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow and Orange.
All of the groups (apart from the Orange - back of the pack) are designed for runners, with the Westpac (a sponsor) Yellow Start for the joggers amongst us, although many people do walk it, or alternate between the two.
The expo at 2013's event was bigger and better than ever. Re-locating from Lower Town Hall, right to Moore Park, there was an abundance of help and awareness to help us all prepare for the main event. Well, as best as possible anyway.
You need to train. Look out for a plethora of run clubs emerging to help you prepare for that all important event. You can wing it, however you will be sore for an extra day.
Nevertheless, such an adrenalin rush that was worth $65 to participate in. Feel good in more ways than one. You're supporting charity too. Plus the encouragement is gold, and the entertainment too. The iconic 'Smurfs' seem to multiply, and always foster a home at Rose Bay, almost to the half-way mark. Karaoke is also on the non-sporting menu too. Well, it now is.
If you're fortunate to be a Westpac customer, remember to bring your bank card (or red wrist) for entry to the Red Zone after the race. A great way to recover with free massages and refreshments.
Such a buzz, yours truly just wants to do it all over again after the 14km deluge of challenges and pure joy on the day. Entry also includes free public transport travel to and from the event with your chest bib. Held (usually) on the second Sunday in August every year.
