Its the outdoor areas that really makes Westfield Warringah a joy to shop at

Westfield Warringah Mall is one of those places that is part shopping centre, part mall. Located on Old Pittwater Road in Brookvale, it has both indoor and outdoor areas for you to wander through as you do your shopping.

The central outdoor square is a fine place to sit and soak up some fresh air

Warringah Mall is more fun than your usual Westfield to browse and shop in. I think this is because of the outdoor areas. Instead of being cloistered by air-conditioning and sterile buildings, you find yourself stepping out into fresh air and sunshine. There is even a main outdoor square, where you can sit and take a breather or enjoy a drink from a nearby café. This outdoor area is strictly no smoking, and has a picturesque fountain, so is a great place to stop with the kids if they or you need a rest.

And there is plenty of greenery around too

You’ll often find competitions or displays being run in the square as well. On my recent trips there were three brand new cars on display; a woman handing out foam reindeer antlers for a gold coin donation, and a person dressed as a giant Energiser battery.

Although the indoors areas are enjoyable too

There are all the usual stores you would expect from a Westfield – Big W, Target, Myer, David Jones – but there are also a number of specialty stores to go shopping at as well. My favourite are some of the food stores, including Tender Value Meats, a gourmet butcher specialising in award-winning sausages (I just had to try the Mexican Beef Nachos and Chicken, Honey and Macadamia varieties).

Shopping

Kids will also particularly love Warringah Mall. On any given day, you'll find an assortment of things for them to do. Giant jumping slingshots where they can bounce high up in the air, and jumping castles for just $5.00 are just a couple of examples.

Warringah brings the outdoors in

Warringah Mall also often has special events on. I've seen Australian cricket champion Ricky Ponting at the Big W there, signing copies of his new book. Future events include the chance to get your photo taken with Miss Universe Australia Diamond Crown on 31st January, and Star Search heats and finals.

Special guests include Australian legends like Ricky Ponting

There is also a Hoyts cinema, so if you want to make a day of it you can take in a movie while you’re there if you like. Or if your kids are old enough, send them off to see something while you do your shopping in peace.

Its rare to find such picturesque malls these days

There is plenty of parking at Warringah, and it is free for the first three hours. However, I’d recommend going as early as possible in the morning. Later in the day those parks really begin to fill up.

There are plenty of fun activities for kids to take part in

Westfield Warringah just makes for a fun shopping (or window shopping) day out, with a little bit of a difference from most other shopping centres.
