Calmsley Hill City Farm

My kids had an absolutely great time at which is situated not too far from the heart of Sydney. The distance seems to not matter when you see how much kids can enjoy by a visit to the farm. First time visitors to a farm, my kids were well and truly entertained.

Everyone watched in amazement when the staff had a show where they showed how sheep shearing is done. Being able to collect a handful of wool to take home certainly made the day for some, as they had already planned on taking the wool to school for ‘show and tell.’

All kids present that day jumped up in glee when they were offered the chance of milking a cow. The visit to was a full day affair with so much entertainment for the kids. My city dwelling kids instantly became farmers, loving every moments of it.

If you are not in too much of a hurry to head back home, the afternoon provides quite an adventurous ride for the kids in a farm tractor.

Patting and feeding animals is another highlight for the young visitors, not to mention the not so young ones. It was a delight to watch the kids enjoy and the adults joining in. The peacocks that roam the grounds gives children a chance to be up close and personal with a beautiful creature they have only seen in books.

To end the day on a high note, all of us were given the chance to experience whip cracking first hand. Though we were nothing like the expert lady who did it with so much ease and grace, we most certainly were glad we were given the chance to try it out.

This is a good spot for a birthday celebration if you have primary school level kids. The barn gives you plenty of space and shelter if you have already packed your food for the party. Alternatively, there is a restaurant in the premises where you can order food for your party or just to eat on the day. The staff here are extremely friendly, giving an ear to the ranting of young ones with patience and explaining the unknown to them.
