A small snippet of the 100 Squared Emerging Designers Market

A hotbed of up and coming local designers

100 Squared is an emerging designer market located on the ground floor of the Sydney CBD Westfield. If you're in the city and looking for some clothes or accessories from some of Australia's best up and coming design talent, this is where you need to head to get your shopping done.

One of my favourite brands there

Who could resist such beautiful blankets and cushions

The concept behind 100 Squared is simple: take one hundred square metres of blank space and turn it into a retail experience like no other. And this is definitely what they've done. I noticed the 100 Squared space from one floor up, with its bright colours and cute bunting, and had to head down for a look. What started out as simple curiosity turned into a long and very enjoyable browse.

Vintage inspired fabrics

And clothes inspired by almost every era

When they say they are showcasing Australia's hottest new design talents, they aren't kidding. I saw so much I wanted to buy, I could have really hurt my wallet if I hadn't practiced restraint. That's not to say it's all expensive. These designers are up and comers, and as such their prices are pretty reasonable. Of course, it depends on what you are buying, and what brand, but I saw plenty of $20 sale racks while I was there.

Who wouldnt want to be as well dressed as these mannequins

The clothing there is suitable for fashionistas of all styles. There are cute summer dresses, fluffy faux fur jackets, skinny pants and patterned jumpsuits. A number of brands have a definite vintage influence to them. There's also jewellery of numerous styles, and some beautiful and well-priced leather handbags.

Beautiful handbags that dont cost a fortune

It's not just clothing showcased though. One of my favourite brands on display at my recent visit was Dreams in Colour, a brand that really lives up to its name. Laptop sleeves, totes, scarves, and even decorative bowls come in beautiful patterns in psychedelic colours that seem the perfect thing to cheer up a gloomy day. I was also sorely tempted by a range of woven cotton blankets and bright cushions.

Punk rock cuff bracelets

Its hard to go wrong with a twenty dollar rack

The fun of 100 Squared is that it's completely unexpected. It's not in a retail store, but laid out in the open on the cement floor of Westfield's bottom level. And the way it is set out makes you feel like you've come across a party. It's so much fun to both browse and buy, and you know you are supporting local designers when you shop there. Plus, you might grab yourself a bargain from a soon-to-be-famous name.

It truly is one hundred square metres of shopping bliss
