Cronulla Beach

What a beautiful place to spend a summers day

is the jewel of the shire.

A lovely beach that’s perfect for families, has a rare benefit; it is just a few minutes from the train station. This draws people from far and wide who want to enjoy a day at the beach.

Sometimes called Cronulla South, the beach is crowded along the sand between the flags, but theres usually plenty of room a bit further away (please remember to always swim between the flags). This beach is patrolled every day of the year, and has wheelchair access.

Crounlla Beach with the pavilion in the background

Behind the beach is the pavilion as well as restaurants, cafés, shops and the Surf Life Saving Club.

A relaxation area has recently been installed at the south end

There is a newly built relaxation area on the esplanade at the south end with wooden sun lounges and grass to stretch out on.

So wonderful is the picnic area above the south end. This is where I proposed to my wife.

Overlooking this area is the high cliff wall and an underused picnic spot with park benches. This is one of the most majestic views in the south, and looks north along the Cronulla beaches right around the bay. Simply breathtaking.

You can take a stroll along the walkway that’s popular with joggers and power walkers, and people visit from outside the area just to enjoy the stunning views it offers.

is not the spot for surfers, but there are plenty of beaches to the north that surfers love.

Lovely Cronulla Park is a great place to sit and watch the beach

The kids play area in Cronulla Park

The grassed area that leads down to the beach, called Cronulla Park is popular as a picnic spot, and for those who don’t enjoy sand on their feet. There is a children's play area and plenty of shady areas to stay protected from the sun. It’s also a great place to have fish ‘n’ chips at twilight.

To get to , travel down the Kingsway and turn right into Gerale Street. There is some parking there at the top of Cronulla Park, but on a busy Summer’s day you could be searching for a spot for a long time. Remember the train station is just a few minutes walk away, and is a good option to braving what can be heavy traffic.
