Mosman Library
The is one of five libraries (including Lane Cove, Manly, North Sydney and Willoughby) that make up the Shorelink group of libraries. You only need to have membership with one of these to take advantage of the offerings from all of them.
The more than it seems from the outside.
The library is located on Military Road, and is right near Café Mosman for those who want to stop for a coffee. This fantastic library has the usual supply of new release and classic books that you would expect from any library. However, is a great place that is more than just about the books. A wall that runs the entire length of the library holds a huge array of audio books, and DVD’s and CD’s are also on loan.
Just a small selection of the huge array of audio books available
Located down the far end is a section just for teens, stocking Young Adult novels and audio books, movies, comic books, and graphic novels. Even better are the two oversized beanbags for teens to chill out on - all while they bury their nose in a good book. The beanbags could easily hold four to five people, and are looked at with envy by those in the adult section.
The Young Adult section with its oversized beanbags is the perfect reading nook.
also has a fantastic kids section. Separated in a room of its own, you’ll find kids books of the fiction and non-fiction variety. Children's artworks make a colourful display at the back, under which are lined a number of tables and chairs. These can be used for reading, and are also used for the number of free children's events that are held regularly at the library. ‘Baby Time’ sessions are held every second Wednesday, and these sessions also offer rhymes and story time events for parents with babies. The library also holds story time sessions for pre-schoolers on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as a huge assortment of craft days on offer - most of them for free.
The section for children is equally inviting, and the perfect space for all the craft activities on offer.
There are plenty of free events on offer for teens and adults too. ‘Monday Matters’ is a regular talk that is aimed at those who are interested in the world of books, or the craft of writing. ‘WIRED For Teens’ is a book club for teenagers, and there is even a ‘Young Adult Book to Movie Club’ - where teens can watch screenings of the movie adaptations of their favourite books.
The Young Adult Book to Movie Club holds screenings of the most talked about movie adaptations.
And if all of this enjoyment for free isn’t enough, there is plenty to do online as well. The runs a number of blogs, newsletters and competitions that the community is invited to take part in. Internet access, as well as printing and photocopying services are available - the latter at a nominal cost, and there is even a stack of library books available to purchase for a few dollars if you like. Popular books are able to be reserved, but take note that it will cost you $3.00 for every reserve you place.
There are plenty of beautiful spots to sit with your newlyborrowed books, both inside and outside.
