The Bondi To Coogee Walk
Bondi and Coogee beaches are no doubt popular weekend destinations, but the real gem of the Eastern Suburbs lies between them.
The Bondi to Coogee (coastal) Walk snakes around the cliffs and bays between the two beaches. To walk all the way to Coogee, give yourself at least three hours, bring plenty of water, and slap on the sunscreen.
Bondi Beach the beginning of the coastal walk
The route isn't treacherous, but there are some stairs to climb, and quite a few uphill and downhill bits. The long walk in the summer sun may get tiring, but there are countless rest stops along the way with magnificent views. There are also shorter walks along the coast that stop at beaches closer to Bondi for those who don't want to commit to a whole afternoon of walking.
a beautiful, rocky view on the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk.
I did the walk on a Saturday afternoon in the summer, and I was surprised at how few people were on the path. The crowds that gather at the big Eastern beaches disperse once you get walking.
Curved paths along steep cliffs offer great views of the coast
I was also impressed by the signage along the way explaining everything from the flora and fauna surrounding the path, to the history and even the irrigation in the region.
plenty of informative signs along the coastal walk
The first part of the walk takes you from Bondi to Tamarama through ancient rocks and beautiful, swimmable bays.

Then it's a short walk to Bronte Beach where you can go for a dip and watch the skilled (and not so skilled) surfers.

After Bronte is the long haul to Clovelly, and then it's on to the last leg.
Gordons Bay aquatic reserve
It's worth making a pit stop at Gordon’s bay to explore the rocks and the marine life crawling within them. Gordon's Bay is an aquatic reserve with an underwater nature trail, so if you're interested, bring some snorkelling gear.
Crab watching at Gordons Bay
From Gordon's, it's a short walk to Coogee - a great place to enjoy one last swim and some relaxation - you're going to need it.
